I Scream, You Scream. Ice Cream Everywhere (Pt. 1)

There are so many ice cream places in Toronto (+GTA). Here are some of the few I’ve been to so far:

Tsujiri

Originally from Japan, this dessert shop has opened in multiple locations in Canada. Since Tsujiri is Japanese, they specialize in Japanese flavours including: matcha (blended green tea leaves), red bean paste, yuzu (it’s sort of like a lemon) and much more.

If you love a strong green tea flavour like I do, you’ll love their matcha flavoured food/drinks. Or if you’re not into the grass flavour (as some people like to refer to matcha as - jokingly), flavours like yuzu is also a great choice! The shiratama - which are chewy rice balls - are amazing! The texture is addicting!

They have multiple locations in Toronto like the one on Dundas Street and there is a store in Square One. You can also find them in BC and Alberta! Also, according to their website, it looks like they’re going to open in Quebec and Nova Scotia - exciting.

There used to be a online menu but I can no longer find that… but you can use their website here to look for a location near you! Though I do notice that different locations have different things to offer.

So good, I can’t stop going back to try other stuff (or eat the exact same thing for the 50th time). 10/10 would recommend

Fugo Desserts

I’m not sure if you’re aware of the “Cookie Monster ice cream” that was on trend a while back… but I first saw it at Fugo. Unfortunately, I didn’t try it out but I did try the honey comb soft serve. I had quite a while back so I don’t remember my experience eating it all that well but by the looks of the image it was vanilla soft serve with crispy cereal flakes, a sprinkle of matcha powder and an itty bitty piece of honey comb.

Unfortunately, I don’t remember this being anything special and my friends (who bought the exact same one as I did) said the same. The other stuff on their menu might be tasty (it looks tasty), so you might want to skip the honey comb.

Their website here!

They currently only have one location which is located on Dundas Street downtown Toronto.

NYC Taiyaki - Toronto

My friends and I only stumbled upon this shop after we ate at a noodle place that was right across from it. We’ve never seen this place before - I think it just opened - but all we knew was we had to go. I don’t know if it was just a pop-up or if they are here to stay but go before they’re gone because it’s pretty tasty.

Taiyaki is a Japanese fish shaped pastry of sorts and it is usually filled with red bean but this place also offers custard filled. You can build your own fish by choosing what filling, the flavour(s) of ice cream and toppings or you can just choose from a few preset options they’ve created.

If you haven’t tried Taiyaki before, its sort of eggy and milky flavoured. Its usually has crispy edges but the inside is pillowy. If you’ve ever had egg waffles - it’s sort of like that.

It was actually pretty tasty and I would recommend this one! 8/10

There you have it. That ends part 1 of our ice cream journey. Part 2 will come out soon - stay tuned!
Bye
