Japan 2018: Meiji Shrine & teamLab Borderless

Day 3

This was the third day of my Japan trip and my legs were already really tired. I may not talk about a lot of things but I walked a lot - I just didn’t take photos of everything nor did I find it was that interesting to share.

Today was the day I decided to head to Meiji Shrine, which is located near Harujuku Station. I woke up quite early, at around 6:00AM to head down because I knew it would be extremely busy. It’s crazy that you can find something so serene and peaceful, relatively close to a busy area like Takeshita Street in Harajuku even in the middle of the day.

It does take about a 10-15 minute walk to get into the actual temple grounds, so be aware of that. Though, on the way there, there were quite a lot of earthworms. I’m usually not afraid of earthworms or anything but for some reason, they were massive. Imagine a hotdog sausage, that was the size of the earthworms - I gagged. Also, for some reason I was afraid they would fall from the many trees along the path but how would they climb up?

I’ll let the photos do the talking here - very peaceful. I loved just sitting and sounds cheesy but enjoying the sounds of nature.

Don’t @ me with all these vertical videos
Why vertical? Because I was on my phone and it’s second nature, OK?

After Meiji Shrine, I walked around Harajuku but since it was like 8AM when I was finished with Meiji Shrine, nothing was open. Things in Japan open late, around 11AM and close early.

Before I headed for the digital art museum, I had to go home to rest because my ankles were swollen from all the walking. Had to dunk my feet in some hot water.

I headed over to Odaiba, which is a series of man-made islands in Tokyo at around 5PM. This was where the digital art museum was. The digital art museum is very popular as well and if you head at peak times, you can expect to wait in line for 1-2 hours. I didn’t have to wait in line at all when I went - just do a quick Google search of best times when you go.

If you haven’t heard of teamLab and their exhibits, you need to look it up because it’s very cool. Their exhibits play with light and light projections. Even after walking around a bit, if you enter a room you’ve already been it, it most probably would have changed into something you haven’t seen yet.

I’m only going to show a few photos - you really have to be there to get the full experience.

If I thought my feet were struggling before this, HAHA was I ever wrong. My feet were DEAD after this.

I quickly headed to a department store in Ginza. Usually department store (the basement level) will have tons of food options - it’s better than the convenient store - but at night, things usually go on sale!
A bonus, here is the food I got:

I got a big box of assorted sushi and a box of mixed veggies & raw fish on a bed of rice. Combined, this was under $15. Not all meals in Japan is/has to be expensive.

And with that, this ended day 3 of my 2018 Japan trip!

Cheers
